Designer : Alan Pickford, Peter Coldwell Synopsis : A fake telephone engineer, a suspected white slaver, a beautiful au pair and an irate literary agent are just four of the people in the lives of Rupert and Amy Wilde. How these four individuals shape events is even stranger than one of Rupert's books. Notes : The title music was composed by Anthony Isaac who has also composed the music for Counterstrike, The Main Chance (which also starred John Stride), Warship, Survivors, The Enigma Files and Raffles. The series was transmitted between 9pm and 10pm.

Designer : Mary Rea Synopsis : An old flame together with a foreign lady of mystery and a long lost orchid provide three strands in the tangled web that detective writer Rupert Wilde and his wife Amy attempt to unravel. Notes : Actor John Stride was born in London in 1936 and trained at RADA. He made his stage debut in 1957 with the Liverpool Rep before spending time doing National Service. On demob he quickly gained leading man status in theatre and quickly transferred to television with roles in Thirty-Minute Theatre (Teeth) and The Main Chance. Theatre has been a mainstay of his career, but he has made time to appear in small roles in films such as Macbeth (1970), Juggernaut (1974) and The Omen. Amongst his other TV roles are Ghost Story for Christmas (The Ice House), Poirot and Growing Rich.
Script : Philip Broadley Director : Derek Bennett Cast : John Castle (David Bardsley), Isla Blair (Helen Bardsley), Lyndon Hughes (Clare), Tony Steedman (Leo), Johnny Allen (Gunbearer), Brian Osborne (Tom), Barkley Johnson (Man With Dog). Designer : Alan Pickford Synopsis : Rupert and Amy are broke again, but at least Helen Bardsley's invitation will save them from starving. However, they soon wish they had stayed at home as they discover that bread and water are better than blood and tears. Notes : Ian MacKintosh was born in 1940 and was always fascinated by aircraft and flying and tried several times to enlist in the flying forces. He eventually joined The Royal Navy and also begun his writing career with his first novel published in 1967. He approached both the BBC and the Navy with an idea for a drama series and thus the succesful programme Warship was born. On his retirement from the Navy MacKintosh was awarded an MBE and was approached by Yorkshire Television for ideas for series from which Wilde Alliance and The Sandbaggers emerged.

Designer : Peter Coldwell Synopsis : Rupert's agent Christopher Bridgewater buys an old house and discovers several items that are not listed in the fixtures and fittings: a young woman who disappears into thin air, ghostly footsteps in the night and strange heartbeats from the study. Investigating the mystery, Amy is inquisitive, Christopher is scared and Rupert is sceptical. Notes : A novel based on the series was published by Sphere in 1978. Producer David Cunliffe has an impressive array of credits including The Inside Man, Hadleigh, Flambards, The Beiderbecke Affair, The Beiderbecke Tapes and most recently Victoria and Albert in 2001. He has also directed episodes of Mr Rose, New Scotland Yard and Raffles.
Script : Jacques Gillies Director : Matthew Robinson Cast : John Fraser (Colonel Stone), Anthony Dutton (Knocker), Philip McGough (Ben), Hilary Mason (Rachel), Alick Hayes (Vicar). Designer : Alan Pickford Synopsis : Colonel Stone returns to England from the desert with a tall story to tell. However, Rupert and Amy do not believe a word of it. Notes : Actress Julia Foster was born in Lewes, Sussex in 1943 and began her career as an assistant stage manager for Brighton rep. Amongst her first TV roles was as a regular in Emergency Ward Ten which quickly led to further roles in both film and TV with her big screen debut in The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner. TV roles include The Planemakers, the title role in Moll Flanders (1975), Hammer House of Horror (The Thirteenth Reunion), Play For Tomorrow (Crimes), Virtual Murder (Meltdown To Murder), Casualty and Holby City. She did an extremely notable performance for ALL COPPERS ARE..., a pre-Professionals work by Sidney Hayers. Her notable film roles include Alfie and Half A Sixpence. She is the mother of Ben Fogle of BBC reality TV show Castaway fame.

Designer : Peter Coldwell Synopsis : The Wildes pay a visit to Manchester and during their stay Rupert becomes concerned about a female singer. However, what starts with a pop could well end with a bang as others appear to have a great interest in her too. Notes : Australian born actor John Lee (1928 - 2000) had also appeared in Warship as Lt. Commander Kiley. His other TV credits include Top Secret, Doctor Who (The Daleks), The Avengers and Doomwatch.

Designer : Chris George Synopsis : The whole city has turned Mexican overnight and Amy and Rupert encounter the mysterious Elena, some aggressive students and a cricket playing Texan. What is really going on? Determined to find out Rupert finds himself threatened with violence. Notes : Patrick Newell (1932 - 1988) is best rememebered as Mother in the later seasons of The Avengers. Other notable TV appearances include Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased), Doctor Who, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Kinvig.

Designer : Mary Rea Synopsis : Unhappy at the thought of flying in a plane, Rupert persuades Amy that the train is a much safer bet and together they board an express from Rome to Paris. However, this train is far from safe when they quickly discover it is full of shady characters. Notes : Director Marc Miller had previously worked on episodes of Crane, Riveria Police and The Main Chance (with John Stride). He also produced and directed the series The Hanged Man.

Designer : Peter Kindred Synopsis : Finding a young boy called Steve wandering the streets, the Wildes take it upon themselves to look after him until the authorities can find his family. However, various other people would dearly love to look after him and are willing to go to great inconvenience to do so. Notes : John Bowen had also written The Flying Dragon for the anthology horror series Mystery and Imagination.

Designer : Mary Rea Synopsis : After giving a lecture at the local prison Rupert begins investigating some criminals who appear to have come into a large amount of money. Soon Rupert's questions get him noticed and several thugs corner him wanting to know why he wants to know their business. Notes : Alan Bennion is perhaps best known for his role as Ice Warriors in the Doctor Who adventures The Seeds Of Death, The Curse of Peladon and The Monster of Peladon. Diana Coupland also appeared in an episode of Redcap called Misfire.

Designer : Mary Rea Synopsis : Rupert is in Amsterdam searching for inspiration for the plot of his next book and finds a woman hiding in his hotel room. Knocked out from behind only causes him to investigate further and he later comes across a case of illegal mining in South America. Notes : Writer Philip Broadley has contributed to many shows including The Saint, Van Der Valk, Department S, Danger Man, The Champions, Man In A Suitcase, Zodiac, Out of the Unknown, Return Of The Saint and Public Eye.

However, Amy and Rupert are not so sure when the answers to their questions raise even more baffling questions. Notes : Leonard Lewis had also directed for Adam Adamant Lives! His producing credits include Bratt Farrar, Barlow At Large, When The Boat Comes In, Flambards, The Chinese Detective, Eastenders and Rockliffe's Babies.

In order to convince people that she is not losing her mind, Debbie takes a photograph of her sister. However, when this is developed Annette is nowhere to be seen. John Lee played Rupert's agent Christopher Bridgewater, who became involved in some of the storylines and Patrick Newell portrayed their nosy neighbour Bailey in several instalments. Ian MacKintosh was surveying locations in Alaska in July 1979 (for a film, but reputedly for naval intelligence) with his friend Graham Barber when the light plane he was in disappeared and has never been found.
